  • Favorite Children's Read-Alouds

Crystal Paine, from moneysavingmom.com recently did a 4 part series on her blog about children's books and I enjoyed it so much! You have to check it out too! Click here to see part one and you can follow her links to see the other parts.

Finding a good book to read to my littles is probably more exciting to me than finding a good book for me! I so enjoy reading to them, and they are delighted to be read to!  I thought I would share a few books that we have and love....(At least the ones that weren't on Crystal's list too... I'll just let you go over there to see those...save me some time. lol)

A Little Old Man by Natalie Norton

It's just a cute story of a little lonely old man who lives on an island. Then his house gets swept out to sea in a storm. It's one of those books you could sit a while just looking at the pictures (it has about 40 pages)....

The Biggest Bear by Lynd Ward
is one of Gabe's favorites for sure. Grandma and Papa gave it to him for Christmas. It has 85 pages.

Little Johnny finds a baby bear in the woods, and wants to keep it, but starts to cause problems when it gets older.

Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey
A lot of you have probably heard of this one....but it's so cute.

I love this sweet picture of Sal "helping" her mom can the blueberries they picked. So many little details...

ABC Bible Verses by Susan Hunt
is a great devotional along with
Leading Little Ones to God by Marian M. Schoolland

How God Gives Us Ice Cream by Mary LeBar
It takes you to the diary farm and the sugar cane fields... shows you just how ice cream is made and how God gives it to us...

I love older books! It's hard to find some thing like this in the new ones...

A Big Treasury of Little Animals by Phoebe Dunn
are sweet little stories. (you can also buy them separately)

Hymns for a Kids Heart (the whole series!) by Bobbie Wolgemuth & Joni Eareckson Tada

We have this one and the Christmas one. Great books. They tell true stories about the writers of the hymns. And each story/ hymn has a verse and a prayer, and the song music. Each book also comes with a CD.

Hmmm... I could go on...but I am running out of time. Just a couple others to mention...
The Richard Scarry books. We have Cars and Trucks and Things That Go. Gabriel looks at those hilarious pictures for good long chunks of time. Doug read them as a kid and likes to sit down with Gabe too, and they try and find Goldbug on every page.
Anything Curious George is great. Also...
We're Very Good Friends My Father and I by P.K. Hallinan

Caring by Jane Belk Moncure (I think there is a whole series of these called Values to Live By... I would love to find more if I could!)

Recently I was searching for some book online and I came across this children's book list. I haven't read a lot of these and some of them I just put on hold at the library. I especially thought ABC and 123 by Mary Fidelis Todd sounded interesting....  "H is for Homemaker. Wonderful mother. Her 8 little children all help one another. " Gotta love that! I look forward to looking through that list a little more.

Hope my links work. Let me know if you have any questions.
And I would love, love it if you could all comment with your favorite children's books as well!!
